As a regional organization, LeadingAge of Maine and New Hampshire closely follows and acts upon a wide range of long-term care issues including financing, legislation, regulation and policy development in Maine and New Hampshire. As an affiliate of the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) our members are kept abreast of issues and trends impacting long-term care nationally. FREE “LONG-TERM CARE IMPROVEMENT GUIDE” NOW AVAILABLE!
Planetree and the Picker Institute are making available their just-introduced Long-Term Care Improvement Guide, a FREE practical resource intended to support continuing care communities in their culture change efforts. Like its groundbreaking predecessor, the Patient-Centered Care Improvement Guide, published in 2008 by Planetree and Picker Institute, the guide has been shaped by the perspectives of long- and short-term residents, their family, staff and leadership. Informed by these various perspectives, the guide presents a number of low-cost, high-impact innovations with the potential to make an immediate difference for patients/residents and staff, and tackles the nuances of culture change across the long-term care continuum inclusive of skilled nursing homes, independent and assisted living communities, and rehabilitation centers. To download your free copy of this guide, visit Planetree’s website at www.planetree.org

MDS 3.0 Online Training Modules Available at Discounted Member Rate!

As you are aware, the newest, updated version of the MDS assessment tool – MDS 3.0 – will be implemented on October 1. The new protocols will not only affect business and reporting processes, but impact your entire interdisciplinary team. Earlier this summer we shared the news with you that our association has partnered with the New York affiliate (NYAHSA) to offer an online suite of focused, comprehensive training programs designed to not only smooth the transition, but improve the overall reliability and accuracy of your assessments. Two programs are available – The Leadership Overview, designed to educate leaders on what they should know about MDS 3.0 and how it will affect business and operations; and Training for Interdisciplinary Staff, a complete program providing an in-depth review of all MDS 3.0 changes, geared toward MDS coordinators and other team members.

Both modules are available in self-paced online modules, which can be used by as many people as you wish for one low rate. The learning module will consist of a comprehensive, section by section overview of MDS 3.0 (Sections A-Z). Six hours of NAB credit will be offered to one person per purchase. Click here for more information: or contact Linda Smith at NYAHSA at lsmith@nyahsa.org or (518) 449-2707.
