MDS 3.0 Online Training Modules Available at Discounted Member Rate!

As you are aware, the newest, updated version of the MDS assessment tool – MDS 3.0 – will be implemented on October 1. The new protocols will not only affect business and reporting processes, but impact your entire interdisciplinary team. Earlier this summer we shared the news with you that our association has partnered with the New York affiliate (NYAHSA) to offer an online suite of focused, comprehensive training programs designed to not only smooth the transition, but improve the overall reliability and accuracy of your assessments. Two programs are available – The Leadership Overview, designed to educate leaders on what they should know about MDS 3.0 and how it will affect business and operations; and Training for Interdisciplinary Staff, a complete program providing an in-depth review of all MDS 3.0 changes, geared toward MDS coordinators and other team members.

Both modules are available in self-paced online modules, which can be used by as many people as you wish for one low rate. The learning module will consist of a comprehensive, section by section overview of MDS 3.0 (Sections A-Z). Six hours of NAB credit will be offered to one person per purchase. Click here for more information: or contact Linda Smith at NYAHSA at lsmith@nyahsa.org or (518) 449-2707.

Fall Leadership Forum from the Aging Research Institute (ARI): Aligning Governance Effectiveness with Organizational Effectiveness

You are invited to join us for this year’s exciting Fall Leadership Forum event, a special half-day workshop facilitated by principals from the Aging Research Institute (ARI): Aligning Governance Effectiveness with Organizational Effectiveness - read more and get the registration form here. This leadership development workshop is tailored specifically for board members and executives of not-for-profit retirement housing and elder care organizations including continuing care retirement communities, assisted living and nursing care providers, and home health care and other community-based service providers. To better accommodate attendees’ schedules and travel considerations, we are very pleased to offer the workshops on two dates and in two locations:

Tuesday, October 19, 8:00am-12:15pm, at Havenwood-Heritage Heights in Concord, New Hampshire
Wednesday, October 20, 8:00am-12:15pm, at The Park Danforth in Portland, Maine

Who should attend? Board members and executive staff of not-for-profit aging service providers.
Why should you attend? The workshop is a powerful development tool for your governance team as you will take away:

  • A shared vision of the role of governance in a turbulent world;
  • Tools for diagnosing the effectiveness of your governance team; and
  • A practical framework for aligning governance effectiveness with mission-centered strategic action.

Will continuing education credits be offered? Yes, the association has submitted the program to the National Association of Boards of Examiners of Long Term Care Administrators (NAB) for 3.5 clock hours. State licensure boards, however, have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses.

This is a unique and very cost-effective program for boards and senior management to explore concepts, strategies and tools to help you assess and align your present style of governance. I would encourage you to share this invitation with your board chair and directors with an invitation to them to attend this workshop with you...it is a great opportunity to further enhance the working relationship that you’ve established with your board/management leadership teams!

Information about the workshops and the registration forms are attached. One item in particular that I would like to bring to your attention is the invitation by ARI to participate in a brief electronic survey; this is intended for all members of your senior management and boards, regardless of whether or not they will attend the workshop. Those interested in completing the survey just need to send me their name and email address by Friday, August 27, after which it will be sent to them via email. Thank you!

Please feel free to contact me at 603-391-9881 or rgoedtel@agingservicesmenh.org if you have any questions or would like additional information. We hope to see you in October - get the registration form here!
